There she goes

Jen. Twentysomething. Wanderlust. Chocoholic. Shoe addict. Camwhore. Bookworm. Foreign films. Food trips. Road trips.

When you first arrive in a new city, nothing makes sense. Everything's unknown, virgin. After you've lived here, walked these streets, you'll know them inside out. You'll know these people. Once you've lived here, crossed this street 10, 20, 1000 times...it'll belong to you because you've lived there.
~ Xavier from "L'Auberge Espagnole"

bend and twist [06.08.07 at 12:04am]
[ music | 24 Season 1 DVD ]

Today was my second day back to yoga after 2 months of absence and Hilary said "Beautiful pose, Jen" as I was doing one of my favorite postures, the trikanasana or triangle pose. :)

I definitely have to work on my other balancing poses though. I still haven't learned to lock my standing leg for a full minute. :(

Hopefully I can get off work early tomorrow so I can catch the last class of the day at 630pm, especially since I'll be missing Saturday cos I'll be at work in the morning and I'm finally doing Ivan's Binondo Wok with Jomen and Judy in the afternoon! :)

Haha. That was funny.

--------

I've been so out of the loop lately cos my life's been one monotonous routine. Work, physical therapy, and sleep. Duh. Can you say DULL??

To top it off, I haven't been going to yoga since March. I miss it! I promise to start next week.

Thanks to my "insider" knowledge, I know all of the upcoming promos of an airline. Haha. Bora, I'll see you in October!! Things have started looking up these past few days, maybe my life won't be too boring anymore. :P First thing to shake up my world: a possible VIP ticket to the upcoming Christina Aguilera concert! Yay!!

Love, Stargirl [05.12.07 at 3:26am]
I can't wait for this to come out in August. I hope this is just as good - or even better - than its predecessor, which just happens to be one of my favorites of all time. :)

She was illusive. She was today. She was tomorrow. She was the faintest scent of a cactus flower, the flitting shadow of an elf owl. We did not know what to make of her. In our minds we tried to pin her to a corkboard like a butterfly, but the pin merely went through and away she flew. - from Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli

----------

Haven't updated in ages! It's been crazy with everything going on. Work for most of the week, and I've been doing physical therapy most days at the hospital. Nothing serious like learning to walk again, don't worry - I haven't really been injured, just...semi-incapacitated, I suppose. :P The muscle pains, particularly in the neck, shoulder and back areas, turned out to be chronic muscle spasms with all my muscles in those areas all in knots. Think of a long rope, and how everything's braided and coiled together and all tense. That's how my muscles were. No wonder it was so painful. It wasn't just the pain but also the lack of mobility I felt in the end. It spread down to my arms, wrists, legs - as well as up to my head, giving me migraines and these painful muscle knots/nodules in the temple area particularly.

Thankfully, physical therapy has helped reduce all the tension and I just have to be patient. It took years for everything to get this tense and knotted, so it's also going to take a while to unravel everything. I miss yoga though - physical therapy takes precedence, no question about it, I just wish that I could do both at the same time. Alas, my schedule doesn't permit it at present.

Aside from chronic muscle spasms, I also had my shoulder checked out - finally. Have had several shoulder subluxations (partial dislocation) in the past, ever since I was a child, but I never thought to have it looked at. After all, I could pop it back into place if it popped out, so I figured (stupid kid), "why bother?" So on top of the physical therapy for the muscle spasm, I've also been doing strengthening exercises for my shoulder, rotator cuff in particular. Apparently, I'm hypermobile. That explains my exaggerated flexibility!

Amazing how I'm just learning these things about myself just now, 26 years in the making!

Living Life amid the Midnight Madness [03.18.07 at 11:25pm]
A friend of mine texted me about C2's Live Life Series: Yoga Awakenings and asked me if I wanted her VIP invite cos she couldn't go. I couldn't text back fast enough and say YES! Haha. It was the promise of a remarkable loot bag that did me in; otherwise, if it was just a yoga session (even if it is with an international bikram yoga instructor who's taught celebrities like Jane Fonda and Evander Holyfield), I would've just gone to the regular 3pm bikram yoga session that I usually go to on Saturdays.

The event wasn't so bad, anyway; I managed to catch up with some people (Tristan from Bikram Yoga Manila and some old school friends from both CSA and Assumption) but for the most part, I barely knew anyone. It seemed like majority of the people were either from the media to cover the event or people from URC. The yoga session itself wasn't so bad - not as demanding as what I'm used to, but still a good learning experience. Jason Ewing, the instructor, modified the series a bit to cater to the crowd as majority of the people there were first-timers who had a hard time stretching or even touching their toes. I ended up on the mat next to Pye after Jason asked her to come on over to the front of the class so everyone else could see her as well. Even though you're supposed to focus on yourself for the entire class, I couldn't help but gape occasionally at Pye's flexibility and strength. I want to be like that someday.

I really should make myself do the 30-day challenge at least once. After my relatives leave. I promise. But what if I miss Sunday class? There's only one session every Sunday. Can I do, say, one session on Monday, then two on Tuesday, to make up for the lost Sunday session? [info]hungthemoon, you're the one who's finished the 30-day thing - is that ok? Oh, and congrats by the way!

It was on to Glorietta for dinner and some Midnight Madness shopping with my sister and cousin afterwards. I blew a fortune at The Black Shop, Mango, K & Company and Penshoppe (plus Lululemon gear at Rockwell). Sadly didn't get to buy anything at Janylin and Schu. I did like 2 pairs of shoes at Schu but they were both at regular price so I didn't see the point in buying them at the moment. I wanted to check out several other stores like Topshop, Zara, and Charles & Keith but we didn't have time anymore. Midnight was not late enough for us. Haha. :) All that shopping made us hungry again so we headed to North Park for a late night snack. I was content with an order of hakaw, but the dessert menu caught my eye - they actually have fried bread and cream dip!! Oh, how I've missed that. There used to be a Chinese restaurant along C5 near the bridge to Katipunan that sold the same dish but has long closed. Now I know where I can get my fill. :D

Sunday has flown by so quickly; I did nothing but sleep. I've been so tired that I don't even hear the alarm in the morning. I was actually late for work yesterday!! I arrived almost 930am when I had to be there by 915am tops. Oops. Should make the extra effort to be early this week then.

Finally found a bit of time to upload pictures of everything that's happened the past few months. Check 'em out at my Multiply site - I haven't managed to upload them all yet so keep checking back. :)
